Abstract

Waste management issues represent an environmental challenge faced by most Indonesian communities, particularly at the household level. The lack of awareness in sorting organic and inorganic waste leads to waste accumulation that impacts environmental pollution and public health. This condition is exacerbated by the minimal waste management facilities available in residential areas, resulting in generated waste often being discarded without proper sorting. This Community Service Program (KKN) aims to increase public awareness about the importance of waste management through the implementation of an organic and inorganic waste bin production program. The implementation method includes several strategic stages: socialization to the community about the dangers of unmanaged waste and the benefits of waste sorting for the environment, waste sorting training with direct demonstrations, production of waste bins with easily recognizable and user-friendly designs, and distribution of sorted waste bins to target residents. This activity was conducted in [RT 29], [RW 07], [Kel.Sawah Lebar] for [1Month], involving active participation from village officials, community leaders, and local residents. The results of this program demonstrate an increase in community understanding regarding the importance of waste sorting, with [percentage] households beginning to implement waste sorting from the source. Community enthusiasm was evident from the high participation in the socialization and training activities conducted. This program also produced [number] units of waste bins that have been distributed and utilized by residents to separate organic and inorganic waste in their respective homes. Post-distribution monitoring shows that most residents have used the waste bins according to their function, although continuous assistance is still needed to ensure consistency in waste sorting. In conclusion, the organic and inorganic waste bin production program is effective as an initial step in building a sustainable community-based waste management culture. This program not only provides physical facilities in the form of waste bins but also delivers education that transforms community mindset and behavior in managing household waste. The success of this program is expected to serve as a replication model in other areas with similar waste management problems.
